Diggin’ This: Salin – “Si Chomphu” (Amari Music Group)

 

A Thai take on Afrobeat and 70s West African psychedelia.

 

 

 

Drummer and producer Salin Cheewapansri wastes no time in getting the groove underway on her undeniably funk-filled new single, “Si Chomphu,” a “tribute to Thailand’s fight for democracy” according to Salin.

 

 

Watch the video below, which sees the Thai-born, Montreal-based musician recreate the track live at sunset in Isan in northeast Thailand, and listen out for the sound of the Khaen, a traditional Thai and Lao reed instrument made from bamboo.
