Diggin’ This: The IgG Band – “IgG Theme” (Kalita Records)

A disco-soul-funk rarity.

Thrilled to hear the celebratory and party-starting groove of “IgG Theme” by the IgG Band, who formed in March 1979 while they were students at Meharry Medical College in Nashville.

As leader Clifford Becker remembers, they first created the group “to play music to please ourselves and friends, and as an outlet to the ever pending and growing pressure of our medical education.”

Their first album, Ultra/Sound, was recorded at Nashville’s Hilltop Recording Studios in 1980 and was privately released on Clifford Becker’s Infusion Records imprint. It has since become a treasured find among disco rarity aficionados and is now being reissued by the London, UK label Kalita Records.
