Diggin’ This: The Donelson Broncos – “Wave Country”
Nashville’s answer to Khruangbin.
Less concerned with delving into the history of Thai funk than their Texan counterparts, The Donelson Broncos create airy, starry-skied instrumental jams that fit loose with Lebowski-grade insouciance.
The trio, comprised of Jimi Greene, Chanceyland, and Aksel Coe, rep the neighborhood of Donelson, which is just over the Cumberland River from my current locale of East Nashville and home to the Grand Ole Opry House and one of my top five Publix.
“Wave Country,” a nod to Nashville’s famed water park of the same name, is a mellow and casual stroll in the vein of BadBadNotGood’s jazz excursions and the Beasties’ experimental instrumental cuts.
The Donelson Broncos – “Wave Country”
“Wave Country” is taken from the Donny Broncs’ new album, Vs. McGavock, out now. Get it here.
Also of note is Chanceyland‘s new song “Nightflyer,” which features none other than Jamie Lidell. Listen to it on my 2020 Essentials playlist here and hear my conversation with Jamie Lidell on The Dan Digs Show here.
