Diggin’ This: Sam Wilkes – “Tonight” (Leaving Records)

Underwater jazz that sounds like it’s on fire.

“Tonight” by Los Angeles jazz musician Sam Wilkes is a stew of hazy horns (including alto sax from Sam Gendel) from the other end of the swimming pool that recall echoes of Coltrane at his most incendiary and effusive soaked in Entroducing-ish drums courtesy of Louis Cole and garnished with pastoral acoustic guitar pickings from Brian Green.

One question remains, however: what on earth is that enigmatic reversed vocal snippet at 4min 28sec?

We must know.

Track of the day.
