Diggin’ This: Mocky – “Put It in a Song” (Heavy Sheet Productions)

When the LA-via-Berlin-via-Saskatchewan multi-instrumentalist isn’t co-writing songs for Kelela or producing Feist’s album Pleasure or working on his own sixth full-length album, expected in 2018, he’s unleashing the fourth installation of his excellent “Moxtape” series, How to Hit What and How Hard.

“Put It in a Song” opens the six-track release, an immediately catchy groove fueled by 70’s funk keys and strings, all held in place by a buoyant Bobby McFerrin-ish backing vox bassline courtesy of Michael Green and Pegasus Warning.

As Mocky himself puts it: “Nothing began with the computer or a click track. Everything began with me hitting something, and during the process, I realized that in the modern musical environment, “how”, “what” and “how hard” you hit something make all the difference.”

Track of the day.
