Diggin’ This: Hudson Mohawke ft Irfane – “Very First Breath”
I’ll be honest, it took me a while (as in a couple of minutes) to fully get into this brand new track from HudMo.
I couldn’t help but notice how the whole thing sounded like it was recorded in a hedge.
And those drums? Just a simple, trudging kick-snare and nothing else? We’re allowed to do that?
But after a couple of listens, “Very First Breath” completely won me over.
That vocal trumps all.
And I can’t help humming it hours after I’ve heard it, which is surely the mark of a great song.
I don’t even mind the lo-fi, gritty, recorded-in-a-hedge texture now, either.
In a world of polished and pristine 808 clicks and hits, these drums and sandpaper production aesthetic almost sound punk.
Hudson Mohawke ft Irfane – “Very First Breath”
“Very First Breath” is taken from Hudson Mohawke’s forthcoming brand new album, Lantern.
Pre-order it here.
(I’m still vibing to HudMo’s remix of Armand Van Helden & A-Trak’s “NRG” as a soundtrack to my 80s training montage.)
