Diggin’ This: Hiatus Kaiyote – “By Fire”

Hiatus Kaiyote‘s brand new songs are so good it’s not even fair. They are my favorite band of the moment.

Large spherical synths, apocalyptic operatic vocals, Stevie funk keyboard runs, tighter-than-tight live drums, and that’s all before the first chorus. I’ve got a feeling that “By Fire” has immediately won a place in my Top 10 song list of 2014.

Listen to “By Fire” here.

The Melbourne, Australia quartet’s new three-track EP, By Fire, is out December 2.

Their sophomore album, Choose Your Weapon, is out March 31 next year.

Listen to “Mobius Streak,” the song that first switched me on to the band back in 2012 and was number 18 in my Top 50 tracks of that year, here.

You can also watch the band playing live at the Seed Factory here and hear singer Nai Palm duet with Taylor McFerrin on the fantastic “The Antidote” here.
