Diggin’ This: oh caroline – “Skin and Bones” (Friends of Friends)

Warm Boards of Canada-esque synth nostalgia meets a fuzzy and relentless garage beat.

I’ve been a fan of Winnipeg’s Lhasa Petik ever since I first heard her hushed and textured vocals grace Shrimpnose’s “Patience,” which was landed on my 2022 Essentials playlist (here) last year.

Previously a duo of Lhasa and Towerz aka Boston’s William Breeuwsma, oh caroline are now a trio with new member Hanz aka Thomas Bråttvik, expanding on the blueprint of their lo-fi folk sound into something more experimental and electronic, as evidenced by their latest single, “Skin and Bones.”

“Skin and Bones” is taken from oh caroline‘s new album, Monochrome, which “strives to revitalize your childlike wonder, and encourages listeners to find solace in the small things in life.” It’s out on February 9 via Friends of Friends.
