Jay Electronica ft LaTonya Givens – “Better in Tune with the Infinite” (Free Download)

“The universe is listening.”

Since signing to Jay Z’s Roc Nation in 2010, Jay Electronica has been quiet on the release front, save for his guest appearance on Big Sean’s “Control” last year.

After a consistent delivery of heavyweight, forward-thinking tracks such as the Just Blaze-produced “Exhibit C” in 2009 and the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack-sampling “Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)” first released via his MySpace page in 2007, Jay may have shied away from the spotlight as of late, but throughout his career he has never shied away from making hip-hop so compelling it audaciously does away with one of rap music’s central elements: the drums.

The long-awaited new track “Better in Tune with the Infinite” is more of the same poetic, beatless brilliance. It opens with Professor Marvel’s speech from The Wizard of Oz over a sample of Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Bibo No Aozora,” which was also used in the end credits of the movie Babel.

It’s amazing how the song was made public: a fan simply tweets at Jay asking him to drop the record, and Jay simply replies that he’ll do just that, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. I might start hitting up Kanye over Twitter to release some of his latest unreleased cuts and see what happens.
