Dave Aju – “Homegrown”

If you use unorthodox instruments to build your kicks and snares, it’s only a matter of time before king-of-the-oddly-sourced-beats (banging on pipes under the kitchen sink in a 4/4 rhythm, anyone?) Matthew Herbert signs you to his Accidental record label.

This is exactly what happened to San Francisco producer Dave Aju, who has previously constructed his music from jazz samples and “mouth noises.”

Here on “Homegrown” a slow techno groove shakes and shuffles underneath electric piano stabs and Aju’s muffled talk-singing.
